Car and dump truck pictures

Good morning!  Today is my first post as a member of The Bug Bytes Design Team and I'm so excited, thanks so much to Pam for inviting me to join her amazing team of designers!

Today I have some pictures to share that I made for my oldest son's room!  I bought him a quilt to go with his new "big boy" room a couple of months ago, but couldn't find any pictures to match, so I decided to make some!  It took me awhile but I finally started on them and I'm really pleased with how they are turning out!

I found some black 10x10 frames at Michael's on sale and they ended up being less then $4 per frame!  His quilt has a mix of cars and construction trucks, so I looked through my Cricut carts to find ones that were similar.  I used a car and dump truck from Boys Will Be Boys and a car and the roads from Everyday Paper Dolls!

For the paper, I used mostly Echo Park "Little Boy" collection with some from Echo Park "Springtime" collection and cardstock from my stash to fill in as needed.

I took some step-by-step photos to show you my process, as I put together the first picture.  I started with setting them all up on my gypsy, then I laid out the paper on my Cricut mat...

Now I have a trick to share with you, that I learned from my friend Tracy - instead of wasting a whole sheet of paper when you'll only see the edges, she cuts out the middle, leaving enough to adhere the center piece and saves the middle for another project!  It seems so simple (and GENIUS!! ;-) - thanks Tracy!) but somehow I never thought to do it!  It kills me to think of all the paper I wasted over the years but I know now and use this trick as often as I can!

So here is my background paper - cut to 10x10 then I cut the middle out, leaving enough edge to adhere my scene paper to!

Now here's my background paper and 8x8 scene adhered together!  You can't even tell the middle is missing behind the scene paper!

I used Imaginese colored foam tape to give the car some dimension with too much, since it will be in the frame. 

I inked the edges of everything using my Quick Quotes PowderPuff chalking ink - I can't say enough how much I love this ink!  It glides on so easily and looks fantastic!

Here are the completed pictures, framed and ready to go!  I wish I could have taken photos of them hanging against his blue walls but he's asleep, so that will have to be done later!

Picnic LO

My dad's union has a picnic every summer and he loves for us to go with him so he can show off his grandkids to all his friends!  Its a lot of fun and they always have a bunch of stuff for the kids to do and yummy food to boot!  This was my oldest son's first time attending, so of course he was the highlight of the day!  (I have the pictures, just haven't added them yet!)  I also plan to add a journaling square in the green cardstock between the picnic basket and the picture on the bottom.

I used several different DCWV paper stacks to make this LO - 'All About Boys', 'Neutrals' cardstock stack, and 'Amber Autumn' cardstock stack, then a few pieces of cardstock from my stash.  The grill, sun (I used my gelly roll 'starburst' pen to add sparkle to the sun) and picnic basket (I traced the weave with my SU marker to give it some dimension) were all from Everyday Paper Dolls, the pennants from Create A Critter (they were originally signs but I cut the pole off!) and the font from Lyrical Letters.  I used Twine from The Twinery and Recollections star brads to hold the banners.

I am entering this LO into the Stack-a-holic Template challenge on DCWV Diary - it was to make a 2 page LO based on this sketch.

I'm also entering it into the Cricut Circle Blog monthly challenge - it was to make something with a BBQ, Picnic, or Patio theme, AND a gingham or check pattern.  I needed to scrap these pictures anyway, so it worked out perfectly for this challenge!

NSD Challenge #10

This challenge from My Pink Stamper was to make a layout or a card with a pet in it, so I chose to make a layout of my son (I've covered his face for privacy reasons) and our dog Molli!

I used a page from DCWV 'Dots, Stripes & Plaids' stack for the LO base.  I cut the title out of cardstock from my stash using the new 'Cricut American Alphabet' cart on my E2.  The dog was cut from Everyday Paper Dolls, I used my Zig 2 Way glue pen on her nose, to make it shiny and then pop-dotted it to give it some dimension, I thought it was a fun trick I discovered!  :-)  The journaling box was from the Imaginesce 'Dino Roar' collection and the paw print stamp is from My Pink Stamper 'Even More Punny-licious' set.

I've been making so many cards lately, so making this layout made me realize how much I miss working on our scrapbooks!  So expect to see more LOs from me very soon, I'm so far behind on the boys' scrapbooks, that I really do need to get busy so I'm not scrapping their newborn pictures when they're in high school!  ;-)
